Who else is a sucker for shifts?
Who else loves the hopefulness of Spring?
I love the energy and sensation of Spring. The waking of the sleeping earth and the cycle starting anew. There is a feeling of hope in Spring. New seeds being sown, new beginnings initiated, the sun warming the soil, and birds singing ecstatically... announcing their arrival, announcing their intention to bring new life and new hope to another spiral in time.
Today I will share a few of my practices that I like to do around the Spring Equinox ( Sunday March 20th this year) or really whenever the shift into spring feels tangible to you, another date that could feel very ripe and potent and special for a spring ritual is March 31st, the first new moon of the Spring season.
Here's a little list of (practical) Spring Magic, I hope something here is accessible to everyone:
Herbal Support for the Transition into Spring:
Stinging Nettle- One of the first plants sprouting up in early spring. An excellent source of iron, calcium, magnesium, proteins and other nutrients. Nettles make a great tea on their own or mixed with mint, red clover, lemon balm etc. Nettles are also delicious eaten as a steamed or pan fried green (cook as you would spinach). Add cooked nettles into quiche, omelettes, casseroles, rice dishes, soups and more! Just remember to use gloves when handling the raw nettles as they do sting as the name suggests. However once cooked there is no sting and they are so so yummy!!!
Dandelion Greens or Roots: Early dandelion greens or roots are an excellent support for the kidneys, liver and digestive system. Eat fresh greens raw in salads, or as a lightly steamed green. Leaves also make a cleansing, just slightly bitter addition to a spring tea. Roots can be peeled and cooked similar to carrots. Roots are also great dried and then roasted until brown, after which they can be ground up and used as a coffee substitute.
Wishing you a supportive transition into spring. And I am looking forward to all the new herbs that will be harvested and shared with you, my community, this spring!
